Review the Lesson plan and customise the Lesson's content and questions.
When you click into a Lesson, the green view mode toggle at the top of the page will default to Prepare mode. This is where you review the Lesson plan and teaching tips. You can also edit and customise the Lesson here, before you introduce your students to the activity.
Prepare mode enables the following activities:
- View the Lesson Plan;
- Review Teacher tips;
- Add, delete, edit, and move content;
- Edit the title, Lesson type, and cover image;
- Add mark values to questions;
- Set a due date;
- Preview as a student;
- Print the Lesson;
- Copy or delete the whole Lesson.
View the Lesson Plan
The Lesson Plan is the first thing you will see after the title and cover image. It is only visible to teachers, and it tells you exactly what to expect in the activity. Use this info as a guide to structuring your class time.
Review teacher tips
Teacher tips are editable in Prepare mode and also viewable in Teach mode. They are always hidden from students unless you share your screen with them.
Teacher tips can be used in myriad ways to enhance a Lesson, including:
- Provide extra guidance when leading an activity;
- Make notes to co-teachers or colleagues when sharing the Lesson;
- Add links to resources, model answers, or extension opportunities.
See how to add your own Teacher tip here.
Add, delete, edit, and move content
You can edit and customise almost any existing Lesson content or create your own from scratch. You have access to most of the same built-in tools that the Stile content team uses. There are many different types of questions and content in your Lessons known as widgets. Read more about how to use and edit each type of question and content widget.
All of the general widget editing capabilities can be found in Prepare mode:
- Delete widgets and restore deleted widgets;
- Edit model answers in question widgets;
- Move widgets within a Lesson or to a different Lesson;
- Copy and paste widgets between Lessons.
Edit the title, Lesson type, and cover image
Grab your students' attention by adding a catchy title and cover image. Let them know what to expect by indicating what type of activity it will be.
Click directly on the Lesson's title, or click the Edit title or Change image buttons. Find more information about selecting the best cover image for your Lesson here.
Set the Lesson type while editing the title. Select your choice from the dropdown menu below the title. Click Save to preserve your changes.
Add mark values to questions
Lessons are formative by default, based on recent pedagogical studies. Check-ins (quizzes) and tests are assessed, and so they include mark values. You can enable Assessment mode on any Lesson to add marks to its questions.
Set a due date
Click on the Lesson's Title or the Due date button near the top of the page to set due dates for each Lesson. Once the date is set, you will see the due date in green below the Lesson's title and cover image. Due dates are optional.
Students can see upcoming and overdue dates on their homepage. They can click on a Lesson in this list to go directly to the activity.
Preview as a student
The student preview allows you to see your Lesson exactly as it will appear to your students. It hides the Lesson plan, all Teacher tips, and Edit/Menu options.
Click the Preview as student button inear the top left corner of the page. The green stripe at the top of your page will turn blue. Question numbers will also turn blue, and editing tools will disappear. Click the Exit preview button to go back to the normal view.
Protip: Use the student preview before releasing each Lesson to check that everything looks as it should. Think of it as ‘proof-reading’ your work!
Print the Lesson
Print teacher notes, student handouts, and model answers from the Print menu. You can also save these documents as a PDF file instead of printing, using the same option.
Copy or delete the whole Lesson
Using the Options dropdown menu, you’re able to copy, duplicate or delete the whole Lesson. You can also restore deleted questions and content.
- Copying a Lesson will allow you to paste a fresh copy of the Lesson into a different Folder. This does not copy the student work.
- Duplicating a Lesson will create an identical copy in the same Folder. This also does not copy the student work.
- Deleting a Lesson will remove the Lesson from your Subject and any student work tied to it. Don’t worry, it’s possible to restore deleted Lessons and the student work!
