Accidentally released answers to students

Answers that have been released by mistake can be hidden or collected again.

Updated over a week ago

If you release answers before you're ready for students to see them, you have two options: hide the Session or collect the work. Both can be applied to individual students, whole Classes, or groups.

Option 1: Hide the Session

Best when: You want to block student access entirely.

  • Students cannot open the Session or see the answers.

  • Marks remain visible to you in the Markbook.

To hide the Session, use the availability controls on the Sessions page. See Release and hide Sessions for steps.

Option 2: Collect the work

Best when: Students still need access to the Session for reference or revision.

  • Answers and model answers are removed from the student's view.

  • The Session is locked. Students cannot make changes.

Steps:

  1. Request resubmission. This hides the answers but keeps your written feedback visible and allows students to edit their responses. Skip step 2 if you want students to keep working.

  2. Collect the work. This locks the Session and keeps the answers hidden. The Session returns to the state it was in after the student submitted, including any written feedback you added.

Both steps are available via the Class controls in the Markbook.

Note: Releasing answers and releasing a Session are two separate actions. A hidden Session blocks all access; collecting work only removes answers while keeping the Session visible.
