The Engagement Strategies widget signals to teachers and students that the content within it is intended for classroom discussion or a physical activity, rather than individual laptop work. It visually groups related questions and content under a named strategy, and includes a built-in Instructions button that explains how to participate.
Set up the widget
Open the Session in Prepare mode and navigate to the part of the Session you want to edit;
Drag the Engagement Strategies widget from the content bar into the Session where you want it to start;
Click the strategy name menu (it defaults to Turn and Talk) to see all available strategies and select the one you want;
Drag any other widgets (questions, text, images, etc.) into the Engagement Strategies widget to nest them inside it.
How teachers interact with it
In Teach mode, the Engagement Strategies widget displays the selected strategy name prominently on the page. Click the Instructions button to expand the built-in instructions for that strategy and present them to your students.
How students interact with it
Students see the Engagement Strategies widget highlighted on their page, which signals that the activity is classroom-based rather than independent laptop work. They can still interact with any widgets nested inside the highlighted area (e.g. entering responses, answering questions) if you want them to follow up after the activity. Students can also click the Instructions button themselves to read how to perform the strategy.
