Track non-Stile lessons in the Markbook

Student work that was collected and marked outside of Stile can still be tracked in the Markbook.

Stile is a powerful tool on its own, and it can also be used in conjunction with other activities and lessons in the classroom. Teachers can track the marks from those lessons in the Stile Markbook, using assessed lessons.

Note: Steps marked with an [Optional] tag are not necessary, but they are useful extra steps in keeping a full digital reference of the class activity.

Create a new lesson

On the Lessons page, create a new lesson. Find an organisational structure that works best. The example above uses a new folder titled Uploaded Pracs.

Give the lesson a title that easily describes the activity to the students, and then change the lesson to Assessed mode.

[Optional] Upload a copy of the original lesson

To keep a full digital reference of the lesson, scan a clean copy of the original lesson and upload it to the Stile lesson using the Share file widget.

Add a question and assign marks

Drag a written response question widget into the lesson.

Write a simple instruction in the question field referring students to the summary feedback. Adjust the mark value of the question to match the value of the lesson being recorded.

Click Done to save changes to the question.

Collect all work and enter student results

Locate the new lesson in the Markbook and use the Class controls to collect all work. This will make clickable inbox tray icons appear for each student.

Note: If the new lesson cannot be found, then the folder containing it might be collapsed. Expand the folder to reveal the lesson.

Click into a student's work to begin marking. Enter the number of marks earned in Question 1 and add feedback either in the Question 1 sticky note or in the summary feedback box at the bottom of the lesson.

[Optional] Include a copy of the student's work

Scan the student's work and upload it to the summary feedback box. This offers the student a direct and easy reference when reviewing the feedback. It also contributes to the student's digital portfolio, organising all of their work for the subject in one place.

Release the lesson and feedback

Click the next student's name at the bottom of the page to continue marking the rest of the class.

When all student work has been marked, navigate back to the Markbook and use the Class controls to release feedback and answers.

Navigate to the Lessons page and locate the lesson. Release the lesson to make it visible to the students. They can now review their feedback and marks.
